Some collections begin with a trend. Some begin with a colour palette or a mood board pinned to a studio wall. Pips Garden began with a person — and with the kind of love that does not go anywhere, even after someone does.
Who Was Pip?
Pip was my mother-in-law. She was the kind of gardener who did not just grow things — she nurtured them, paid attention to them, understood them in a way that went beyond technique. Her garden was not a hobby. It was an extension of who she was. A place where she found genuine peace and joy, tending to the flowers she loved with the kind of quiet dedication that is rare and worth admiring.
She is no longer with us. And in the way that grief works, the things she loved have become more vivid rather than less. The flowers she grew — Peonies, Sunflowers, Roses, Hydrangeas, Gladioli — feel like a way of keeping something of her present. Of honouring the beauty she brought into the world simply by paying attention to it.
Pips Garden is named for her. Every design in this collection is, in some small way, a tribute to a woman who found wonder in flowers and passed that sense of wonder on to everyone around her.
The Five Flowers at the Heart of the Collection
Each design in Pips Garden is built around the flowers that Pip loved most. They are not chosen for trend or commercial appeal — they are chosen because they were hers. Here is a little about each one and why it earns its place in the collection:
Peony — Lush, layered and unapologetically beautiful, the Peony is one of the most expressive flowers in any garden. It blooms briefly but magnificently, which makes it feel precious. In the collection it is rendered in rich, full detail — the kind of bloom that stops you in your tracks.
Sunflower — Bold, joyful and impossible to ignore. The Sunflower brings warmth and energy to the collection and is the design that perhaps captures Pip's spirit most directly — always turning towards the light. It translates beautifully onto a premium white t-shirt, vivid and unapologetic.
Rose — The most storied flower in history, and one that earns its place in any collection about gardens and the people who love them. In Pips Garden the Rose is treated with a vintage sensibility — drawn with detail and warmth rather than the graphic simplicity you might expect. A nod to the classic.
Hydrangea — One of the most architecturally interesting flowers — clusters of small blooms that together create something extraordinary. The Hydrangea brings texture and softness to the collection, and its muted, dusty tones sit beautifully against the crisp white of the base garment.
Gladioli — Tall, dramatic and deeply English in its garden associations, the Gladiolus brings structure and elegance to the collection. It is perhaps the least expected flower in this group and all the more interesting for it — a bold vertical design that works beautifully on both t-shirts and hoodies.
Premium Garments, Because the Design Deserves It
Everything in Pips Garden is printed on premium soft-cotton t-shirts and hoodies that I have personally tested and worn. This matters more than it might sound. A beautiful design on a poor quality garment is a compromise I am not willing to make — and one I know Pip would not have appreciated either. She had standards, and so do we.
The base garments are chosen for their weight, their drape, their feel against the skin. They wash well, hold their shape, and carry the prints with the clarity and vibrancy the designs deserve. Botanical fashion done properly starts with the fabric, not the print.
A Collection That Grows
Pips Garden is not a fixed collection. Like a real garden, it is designed to grow — new flowers, new styles, new seasonal additions added when the inspiration is right. The collection currently features Peonies, Sunflowers, Roses, Hydrangeas and Gladioli, but there are more blooms in the sketchbook and more designs taking shape.
New pieces will be added as the creative mood takes hold — which feels like exactly the right way to build something that is, at its heart, about the natural rhythms of growth and season. Pips Garden grows with every season. That is not just a tagline. It is a promise.
